Stefano Bianchini Stefano Bianchini

Stefano Bianchini is Professor of East European Politics and History at the University of Bologna, School of Political Science "Roberto Ruffilli", Forlė campus. He is the Director of MIREES, an international two-years Master's degree on East European Studies in English, awarding a joint diploma with the Universities of Ljubljana, Corvinus and Vytautas Magnus in Kaunas. He is also the scientific co-director of the European Regional Master in Democracy and Human Rights of the Universities of Sarajevo and Bologna. As the director of the Institute for Studies on East Central and Balkan Europe, he is coordinating the CEI International Summer School of Cervia on Post-socialist Transition and European integration.

As an expert of Balkan issues and particularly on Yugoslavia and its successor states in politics (particularly nationalism, weak states and security, transition), contemporary history of communism, and international relations (regional policies, EU enlargement, relations between Italy and the Balkans), he published 8 books, edited or co-edited 22 books and authored over 100 articles and reviews in different languages. Dr. Bianchini is Editor in Chief of the English Series on the Balkan and East-Central Europe of the Europe & the Balkans International Network (one of the ancients in Europe, with 250 experts from 36 countries), Longo Publ., Ravenna.

He is a member of the Editorial Board of the ASN journal Nationalities Papers, and of the Nationalities Papers (Limes) as well as of the International Academic Boards of the Journal of Southern Europe and the Balkans and Southeastern Europe. Dr. Bianchini is a Member of the AAASS (the American association of Slavic Studies), the AIS (The Italian Association of Slavic Studies) and other associations.

He served as a Vice president of the Association for Studies of Nationalities (ASN) in 2004-2007, and currently he is a member of its Executive Committee.
