Vejas Liulevicius

Dr. Liulevicius is Associate Professor of History at the University of Tennessee, where he holds the Hendrickson Professorship in the College of Arts and Sciences for 2007-9 and is the Director of the Center for the Study of War and Society. He earned his B.A. from the University of Chicago and his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. After receiving his doctorate, Dr. Liulevicius served as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Hoover Institution on War, Peace, and Revolution at Stanford University.
Professor Liulevicius has won many awards and honors, including the University of Tennessee's Excellence in Teaching Award and a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship. At the university he teaches courses on modern German history, World War I, 20th-century Europe, and diplomatic history.
Dr. Liulevicius has published numerous articles and a highly praised book, War Land on the Eastern Front: Culture, National Identity, and German Occupation in the First World War. He has recorded three taped courses with The Teaching Company, on "Utopia and Terror in the Twentieth Century", World War I, and European diplomatic history, 1500-2000.
